Session types are one of the most important foundations in CORE. They connect your schedule, memberships, and packages — ensuring clients can only book what their membership allows. Set up correctly, they make scheduling seamless and billing accurate.

This article explains how to design your session types and why it matters for services like group classes, PT sessions, reformer classes, and non-bookable perks like towel service.

Prerequisites

Before you begin:

  • Know what services your business offers (classes, PT, semi-private, towel service, etc.)
  • Understand your membership tiers and what access each tier includes
  • Admin access to Schedule Settings is required

Step-by-step instructions

Step 1: Understand the purpose of session types

Session types are bookable services or perks that are tied to:

  • Schedule Templates (for class types and services)
  • Memberships or Packages (to control access and billing)

They ensure that:

  • Clients can only book what their membership allows
  • Different services (e.g. Reformer vs. General Class) can be priced and tracked separately
  • You can distinguish between unlimited access, monthly limits, or specialty perks


Step 2: Plan session types based on your offerings

Here’s a sample breakdown of session types based on membership tiers:

Membership Tier Session Types
Bronze Classes
Silver Classes, Personal Training, Semi-Private
Gold Classes, Personal Training, Reformer, Towel Service

✅ Tip: Even if two items are technically “classes” (e.g. HIIT vs. Reformer), you may want to split them if they have different price points or booking rules.


Step 3: Include non-bookable services if applicable

Some services (like towel service or locker access) may not be booked via the schedule — but are still tied to a membership. You can create a session type for these so they’re recognized when a client checks in.

Tip: These help front desk or trainers know what perks are included in each tier, even if they’re not scheduled sessions.


Step 4: Use session types when setting up memberships and templates

When building:

  • Memberships or Packages — attach one or more session types to define what the client can book
  • Schedule Templates — assign a session type so the system knows which memberships can book the session

This connection ensures that:

  • A “Reformer Class” can only be booked by someone with the Reformer session type
  • A Bronze member won’t mistakenly get access to PT sessions or towel service

Expected Outcome

Once session types are defined and connected to your templates and memberships, clients will have seamless, correct access to their included services — and your team won’t have to manage exceptions manually.
